The United Methodist Church in Tolstoy, South Dakota remembers that God’s presence is their guidance, strength, and support in all situations. Even though the Tolstoy UMC has a small congregation, the members are dedicated to keeping the church and ministry alive and growing as they share Christ with others.

Tolstoy UMC continues to be a church in ministry and action. Members of the church actively support the special offerings of the United Methodist Church each year. Some of their local ministries include writing letters to college students and providing boxes of cookies and other goodies to shut-ins in the community. Children and youth have always been a key focus of the church through weekly Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. The church also provides full scholarships for any child or youth to attend camp each summer.

Unfortunately, the mission and ministry of Tolstoy UMC is being hindered by their roof. Deteriorating and missing shingles are causing the roof to leak into the Sunday school classrooms. In addition to serving the children each Sunday, these rooms are also used to prepare mission packages and host other ministry outreach programs. They plan to replace the old roof with a new steel roof that should serve as a permanent fix to prevent future leaks. In addition to the roof, Tolstoy UMC plans to replace the walkway in front of the church and the carpet on the outside steps to create a more welcoming appearance and improved functionality for those coming to the church.

The congregation has been very supportive of making this project a reality by offering prayers, support, and financial gifts. Tolstoy UMC hopes to replace the roof so their ministries of worship, children and youth ministry, and ministry outreach can continue to reach others in their community.

Oakes UMC thanks you . . . . $9,000 granted!

As we move through another frigid winter in North Dakota we are rejoicing over your generosity in helping to provide a new roof for our sanctuary. Through your giving we have a strong church roof to withstand the three feet of snow we’ve received so far this winter and wind chills dropping to negative 49. Oakes United Methodist Church has been a part of this community for many generations. Our church building is recognized throughout the town as a place where faithful gather and the good news of Jesus Christ is proclaimed. Thank you again for helping this little corner of God’s Kingdom with a vital need.
