Grow Ezekiel 17:24

"All the poor and powerless/And all the lost and lonely/All the thieves will come confess/And know that You are holy

And all will sing out/Hallelujah/And we will cry out/Hallelujah

And all the hearts that are content/And all who feel unworthy/And all who hurt with nothing left/Will know that You are holy"

(All the Poor and Powerless, 2011, byAll Sons and Daughters)

The lyrics in this week’s Pause moment are from the song titled, “All the Poor and Powerless,” from the worship duo, All Sons and Daughters. The song describes those who are poor, powerless, lost, lonely, thieves, those who feel unworthy and hurt, and those with content hearts.

Can you connect to these lyrics? Have you ever felt as if you could do nothing of meaning? Have you ever felt that you were okay where you were?

So did the people of God in ancient times. They were sometimes in positions ruled by harshness, other times in positions of prestige in their communities.

The lyrics – and Ezekiel – say all will know the Lord is holy. None are excluded from this humbling experience, and few are left unchanged by the greatness of it.

If we feel worthless, the holiness of God makes us feel loved and worthy. If we feel content with ourselves, the holiness of God reminds us that there’s more work to be done. The holiness of God has the power to transform.
