There are probably a number of reasons that “The Avengers” is one of the hottest movies of the summer. For one, lots of folks have been waiting a long time to see it made. It’s the kind of movie that sells well this time of year too, full of action and special effects.

But its appeal also lies in the vicarious thrill of watching people with superpowers overcome world-endangering threats. I mean, who wouldn’t like to have one of those high-tech suits worn by Iron Man? In our dangerous world, however, no such powers protect us.

But Jesus says we are protected by truth – God’s truth. With so much evil around, our best defense is to depend on truth, just as Jesus did.
