This Week @ Dakotas | January 21

NEW THIS WEEK!

Men's Retreat | March 14-15
Join us at Storm Mountain Center for our annual men’s retreat. The retreat will begin with an evening of worship, fellowship, and study, delving into the things that can distract us from our faith. Bob Goff’s book, Distracted, will guide our learning. On Saturday, we will continue to explore this theme, finding ways to eliminate these distractions, freeing us to find joy. Cost: $110 (This includes lodging and three meals). For questions or more information call or email Pastor John Britt.

Virtual SPRC Training | March 13
Staff/Pastor-Parish Relations Committees (S/PPRC) are encouraged to attend a virtual training hosted and led by Rev. Dan Bader, DK Conference superintendent, Rev. Becky Jo Messenbrink, MN Conference superintendent, and Diane Owen, Area director of clergy well-being. If you have new members of the S/PPRC, have recently received a new pastor, or haven’t been through a training in a while, you are recommended to participate. The training is best experienced if all SPRC members are viewing the training together thus allowing for engagement in table conversations. Register your SPRC here.

LUKE-ACTS 2025 - Reflections & Resources

As we move into chapter 3 of the Gospel of Luke, the story has moved 30 years into the future where we encounter John the Baptist who is preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins and calling people to a new way of living. Jesus, too, comes to be baptized--a sign of the beginning of his ministry. We hear God's words after Jesus' baptism, "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased." How might you remember your baptism this week and respond to that call to "produce fruit in keeping with repentence" (v.8)? Additional resource: Bible Project Video
Want to go deeper in your study of Luke? Check out the commentary, Luke 1 – 9, Luke 10 -24 (two volumes; Wisdom Commentary Series), co-authored by one of our Dakotas clergy, Rev. Dr. Shelly Matthews.

Breakthrough Ministry Grant application deadline Jan 31
Has the Holy Spirit been nudging you, planting an idea for mission and ministry in your heart and mind? Apply for a Breakthrough Ministry grant! Funds for Breakthrough Ministry grants are provided through the generosity of United Methodist Churches across the Dakotas who faithfully give through their apportionments, Foundation funds, Endowments and Annual Conference Miracle Offerings. These grants are exclusively for United Methodist Churches and United Methodist-related Ministries in the Dakotas Conference. Projects supported through Breakthrough Ministry grants include outreach ministries, church/school partnerships, young adult/campus ministries, and culture of call. View the application here.

Elisha/Samuel Intern applications
Do you know a young adult or older high school student who has gifts for ministry or is sensing God's call in their lives? Encourage them to apply for an Elisha or Samuel internship. These internship programs allow students to explore, discern their call, and discuss where God is calling them while getting a taste of church and pastoral ministry. High school and college students who complete the application process are then selected by the Dakotas Conference Board of Ordained Ministry who will assign them a church and mentor. Applications are being accepted until March 1. Churches interested in hosting an intern should contact their district superintendent.
