Transformed at Dakyouth 14

Brookings, South Dakota was the filled with laughter, song, and transformation. "It was awesome to meet new friends, connect with old friends and grow in a relationship with God," said Nathan Bader, Pierre First UMC. Over one hundred Dakotas youth and adults attended a transformational experience during Dakyouth 14 held at Brookings First United Methodist Church and South Dakota State University.

"The event was a huge success, " said Rev. Kris Mutzenberger, Coordinator of Conference Council of Youth MInistry (CCYM).

"We heard very positive comments about all of our performers and speakers.  Mike the Magician, Michael DeSchalit, was very entertaining and had all ages laughing as he tied his magic tricks and stories into lessons about transformation.  On Tuesday in the park he did an activity where he had the entire group in a circle around a huge strap where they learned the value of supporting each other and working together," described Becky Holten, Director of Camping and Youth Ministry.

Bishop Bruce R. Ough, resident bishop of the Dakotas Minnesoata Area, preached a powerful message about transformation on Monday evening followed by communion.  Individuals feeling called had the opportunity to go forward to pray with clergy.

"Bob Stromberg was really funny.  His storytelling gift allows him to weave items from the past with important values that speak to our hearts today.   And his shadow 'hand' puppetry is amazing; it’s as much fun to watch him  perform as it is to see the images he creates," noted Holten and Mutzenberger.

"The RezLife Band from Church of the Resurrection was awesome! It was fun and one of the highlights for me, " explained Nathan Bader, a member of the CCYM.

Gracie Schram from the Rezlife Band, shared her story of transformation.  Schram described how God has called her to use her gifts of music to produce CDs to raise money for building orphanages to transform the lives of children around the world.

Pastor Olu Brown was the teacher and preacher on Tuesday.  During worship on Tuesday evening Brown encouraged the participants to, " be all they could be."  He had them turn to their neighbors to ask, “Do you want my autograph now” as he has the confidence all of them will transform the world in their own way.

Rich Zeck and the Brookings First UMC crew offered amazing hospitality.  Pastor Rich challenged the group during his closing message to go out and inspire others.
