Ask Psalm 85:8-13

Ear buds are taking over the world. You can’t go anywhere without seeing at least ten people jamming on their iPods. This isn’t necessarily a bad or good thing — it just is. We listen to lots of music and podcasts, but how good are we at listening to people face to face? How good are we at listening to God?

Sometimes it’s hard to listen to God because it seems rare that God speaks audibly. In other words, “How do I know it is God speaking and not the burrito I ate last night?” Sometimes it’s hard to know.

Here are some times to listen for God’s voice: Listen in silence. Listen in prayer. Listen to the voice of Sunday School teachers, church leaders, and other mentors. Listen in worship. Listen to Christian friends.

God’s voice is all around us if we’ll listen. Take those ear buds out for a while to listen for the voice of the One who loves you beyond understanding.
