Mission Café & BakeryWe are thankful for your ongoing support of our mission efforts and want to let you know how you can help this year.  Here’s how you and your congregation can get involved:
BAKERY ITEMS – Any and all baked goods are welcome!  Please bring items packaged and ready to sell.
CRAFT FAIR – Your church may reserve a table for craft items you would like to donate and sell.  We ask that you price the items, set up your table and take home items that do not sell at the end of the day.  We will have cashiers available.
UMCOR RELIEF KITS – A truck will be available to collect your boxes of UMCOR relief kits.

Items for sale at the Mission Cafe and Bakery.

Check out the this link for UMCOR relief kit details.  The greatest demand is for hygiene kits and school kits.  Kits need to be boxed and closed with tape.  Label the box with the type of kit and the number of kits in the box.
SHOEBOX CHRISTMAS – Pack Christmas gifts in a shoebox for Spirit Lake Ministry Center in North Dakota.  Go to  here for more details on what goes into a Shoebox Christmas gift.  Wrap the bottom of the box separate from the top, then rubber band or tie the box together.  Using a gift tag, mark the box for a girl or a boy and include the age group (infant, toddler, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 or 13-17). Bring your boxes inside; they do not go on the UMCOR truck.
TREE OF LIFE SEWING KITS - Assemble the following items and place them in a gallon-size sealable bag, marked “TOL Sewing Kit.”  NOTE: these kits are NOT UMCOR sewing kits; they must be packaged separately and labeled accordingly. Bring your boxes inside; they do NOT go on the UMCOR truck.

  • 1 yard (or more) of cotton fabric
  • 1 pair fabric scissors and 1 package needles
  • 1 spool of thread
  • 1 package straight pins
  • Optional extras (your choice): buttons, ribbon, additional thread, measuring tape, rotary cutter, cutting board, etc.

For more details, see the Tree of Life Dakotas Conference webpage here.

ALL proceeds from the Mission Café and Bakery will go to these projects:

DAKOTAS HUNGER GRANTS – The conference distributes more than $15,000 to programs serving hot meals in communities across the Dakotas.
UMCOR - The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) not only supplies food for hungry people, but also helps underdeveloped countries move forward. Seeds, tools and training are provided to enable people to grow their own food. UMCOR combines immediate crisis relief —food, clothing and medical supplies, with long-term solutions—clean water, immunizations, enhanced agriculture and advocacy for appropriate public policies, to bring hope to people in despair.  In the United States , UMCOR assists states and communities through disaster relief efforts.  all, 100% of  donations go directly to the designated UMCOR project.  There are no administrative costs applied to donations.
UMC GLOBAL HEALTH - Abundant Health: Our Promise to Children is The United Methodist Church’s primary global health initiative for the next four years. The effort focuses on four core areas impacting the health of children throughout the world. The initiative aims to reach 1 million children to ensure safe births, address nutritional challenges and promote breastfeeding, advance prevention and treatment of childhood diseases, and promote children’s health and wholeness.  The Global Health Unit is currently providing technical support and grants for abundant health projects in six countries:  Democratic Republic in Congo, Haiti, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria and the United States.
We are very excited to continue this collaborative effort.  Our aim is to attract new people, raise awareness and continue our mission to be the hands and feet of Christ locally and globally. Learn more about Abundant health here.
