MITCHELL, SOUTH DAKOTA --  Bruce Blumer travelled to LaGonave, Haiti to purchase land for a medical clinic.  The clinic and sponsoring a student in medical school is a project of Mitchell First United Methodist Church and Hot Springs United Methodist Church.

Mitchell First and Hot Springs United Methodist Churches are sponsoring a Hatian in medical school.  William Hyppolite is now two years from graduating from UTESA Medical School in the Dominican Republic and then will return to serve the people of La Gonave, Haiti.

After a good meeting with United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Volunteers in Mission (VIM), and Englise Methodiste Haiti (EMH) representatives, it looks like the best course may be to facilitate mobile clinics to the small villages on La Gonave,” said Bruce Blumer who is coordinating this effort.  “We did purchase a lot for a future clinic, but the focus right now is getting William through school and continuing the conversation on how to reach and serve the people on this forgotten island in Haiti.”

People from Mitchell and Hot Springs churches, along with many others, have also sponsored a number of student scholarships, assisted with feeding programs, supported women’s groups, and funded an annual Orphan Christmas party for 150-200 orphans each year on La Gonave.
